Birthday Faux Pas

by Mackenzie

Yesterday was my mother’s birthday. She called to remind me to wish her a happy birthday. . . Seriously.

Is there anything more embarrassing than having to be called by the birthday celebrator to remind you it’s their birthday and you have yet to acknowledge it? If so, such an embarrassment doesn’t easily come to mind. Let’s just say I was rather mortified to receive her call, and rather humbled in my “I’m a great daughter” identity. I realized I needed to make some sort of change in order that such a lapse of birthday lovin’ on my part would never again disgrace my good name.

I realized I needed the power of Change Anything.

So I followed the tried and proven method. I thought of my Crucial Moments: birthdays of friends and family. I pondered my Vital Behaviors: marking in my calendar, setting alarms, etc. I imagined tools and tactics to help me change in my behavior in each of the six sources.

Overall, I started my way towards change and my new life of excellent birthday remembrance. I guess only time will tell whether or not I’ll be successful. . . All I know for sure though is that I will most definitely be remembering my little sister’s birthday next week.

Thank you birthdays. Thank you embarrassment avoidance. And thank you, Change Anything.
